The fabled “Japa-Neve.” They really are the sh*t when properly racked up with input/output transformers and quiet power. These are hanging every bit with the top-dollar stuff in studios all over the place - and quickly proliferating!
Boatloads of gain on tap: 70dB+. These will slam a ribbon mic if you need them to. Fully recapped and they also come standard with the “Neve mod” to match classic 1073 EQ frequencies, output transformers for balanced I/O and a dedicated power supply setup for ultra low-noise. Several circuit tweaks and upgrades are also made for maximum headroom and low-end response. It’s downright difficult to get a bad sound out of that Inductor EQ and the DI hits like a truck. Freshly racked in U.S. made enclosures.

I had thought the Cyclops PM1000 days were numbered. However, word seems to have gotten out about that: So a number of folks have recently reached out with large console trades... and thus the Cyclops PM1000 era will continue.
While custom pre-orders officially ended in 2026, there will be some fresh Cyclops PM1000 builds hitting the net soon. Due to time constraints, I have opted to end custom PM1000 pre-orders indefinitely and will instead build small batches of some tricked out pre-built units and offer them for sale as they become available.
If you are looking for a Cyclops Audio PM1000 now: Reach out right away. Pre-Builts tend to get snatched extremely fast, so they will fly on a “first-come, first-serve” basis as they come out of the oven. PM1000 "Sub-Master" modules pulled from rare 32/24-channel console configurations. These ultra-scarce modules were originally placed in the master section of the console and used as summing & master busses with the added love of that sweet Inductor EQ onboard. As such, they are ideal line-amps to route audio from your DAW through. These will eat your interface's line-level signals and spit out all-discrete, inductor EQ'd, big board warmth. Glorious 2-buss potential. Unbalanced DI’s for that classic PM1000 DI sound or for juicing vintage stuff - tape, etc.
Fully restored and racked in 3u enclosures with buttery smooth NOS EQ pots, EQ points "Neve-modded" and Treble/Saturation mods added.
Alas, I am now out of Sub-Master modules. If you should find any of these rare beasts, I can rack them up for you.
CUSTOM PM1000 OPTIONS
As of 2026 - All Cyclops Audio PM1000’s come standard with the Treble Switch mod & Saturation Control on every channel. These have become staple features for unlocking all the sonic potential of these beasts.
Various I/O options, like switchable Front Panel XLR jacks can be added to custom builds.
For those getting custom racks, Output Transformer Switches can be wired in many varieties. From 2 and 3-way switches with different boutique iron options to “Center-Tap” switches for different gain ratios/levels.
TREBLE EQ SWITCH
An added toggle switch that shifts frequency between a 10k and 12k shelf on the treble knob.
SATURATION CONTROL
A trim placed just before the output transformer to facilitate heavy clipping of the second gain stage. In conjunction with the OUTPUT control, this gives you more complete control over clipping in the second gain stage - and more saturation on deck.
SWITCHABLE OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS
This has become a fairly often requested feature - two (or three) separate output transformers on a switch for a different “flavor” & “feel” to the output stage.
The original MIJ Tamura is a great match for these (when available) but there are also many other greats - cAPI, Cinemag, Carnhill, Jensen, Hammond, Edcor USA, etc.
“Center-Tap” switches can also be wired onto certain transformers, giving the user a variable ratio & gain level at the output. This has become a favorite of many of my clients.
CUSTOM I/O OPTIONS
A number of custom I/O options can be installed on custom builds. From simple parallel TRS/XLR jacks to switchable rear input jacks to Front-Panel XLR’s.

A vintage all-discrete console from the 70’s with a fully inductor EQ on the channel strips. Though the console in it’s original format has a number of inherent limitations, the onboard preamps themselves have the potential to be very high-end standalone units with the right tweaks, mods and racking procedure.

Origins of the “Japa-Neve” etymology seem to be conflicted. I’ve heard several different stories and it’s difficult to trace the origin. While they are a different circuit than a Neve 1073, they share many important characteristics – all-discrete gain staging, fully inductor EQ, large signal transformers which contribute to the warm sound, etc. And of course – they were made in Japan.

I use an external power supply with an additional filter circuit built inside the enclosure. After auditioning a myriad of different power configurations, I found this setup to be by far the quietest and most reliable. This is a feature that studio engineers really appreciate in the modern environment. There is also diode protection to keep the unit safe from accidentally plugging in the wrong power supply. Power supply is included.

While this is a subjective question, consensus from my large list of clients is that in this “Cyclops-racked” configuration, these compete with just about any preamp out there.
They have their own unique “vibe,” which many have described as ”Neve-like.” With +70dB of discrete gain on tap, they can go head to head with the best of ‘em. Quite a few of my clients even say that they prefer these to the other big-dog preamps in their rack.
If you are a lover of boutique discrete pres, these Cyclops PM1000 racks are a flavor you won’t want to miss.

The PM1000 “High-Gain”
Master and Monitor sections of the PM1000 console have the same dual pair of 4-transistor discrete gain amps that the channel strips use - minus the EQ circuit. This allows me to create a killer +70dB all-discrete mic preamp. I add all standard mic preamp controls (180*/PAD/+48v) as well as a front panel DI. These are fully-featured mic preamps with gain staging controls placed at several points in the signal path for a finely-tuned control of the gain structure and multiple sonic colorations easily accessible to the user.
These are a favorite of drummers and anyone needing lots of high quality discrete input channels. Also a favorite of engineers who want thick analog saturation capabilities in their racks.
As of 2026, I am racking all “High-Gains” with cAPI’s EA2623 output transformer, for massive gain and thickness.
The “High-Gain” has grown into it’s own animal - and I must admit - some cats even prefer it to the channel strip version!
